Clever girl, huh? ! Well, of course, we couldn't just leave them alone...they were a little chipped and needed TLC.  We painted a layer of Old White Chalk Paint decorative paint by Annie Sloan, then a coat of clear wax and dark wax.  They're looking pretty good, huh?

The program dramatizes the genesis of Selfridges, now a chain of luxury department stores in Britain. An American, Mr. Selfridge changed shopping forever by making merchandise accessible and fun. Customers were able to touch and (the horror!) try on merchandise! He is credited with the phrase "the customer is always right."

The story interests me from so many angles. As someone in retail, I love seeing the grandeur of high end shopping. It's comical to hear the (now) obvious marketing strategies that seemed to baffle store owners of the time. And there are whispers of (my favorite) upstairs/downstairs plot line - viewers see both the store customers and employees.
