Color 2011

Do you remember that scene from the Devil Wears Prada when Meryl Streep's character explains that the color of Anne Hathaway's sweater all but changed the course of history?

It's a painful moment to watch but the world of color forecasting is not only real but also a major force.

Each year (and season, but that's a different and somewhat confusing matter), Pantone releases a selection of colors that it believes will be popular. And they always are. Each "report" features a color of the year. The past few years have been fairly demure, featuring subtle, often cool-toned, colors. But not 2011

Honeysuckle (top, left) is the "Color of the Year" but all of the selections are prevalent. I'll be providing examples of the selections all week. While most seem too bright or bold to use, keep an open mind...and an open eye. They're all around you.
