DiY Floral Arrangement
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at 07:00AM As promised...
Total Bliss has been brainstorming the last few weeks. What do you guys want to see on the blog? Pictures of the store? Ideas for your home? A running total of the times we've burned ourselves with hot glue?
Well, while you all think that over...we're going to give a quick tutorial.
Total Bliss sells these great metal pieces. Some have glass candle holders in them. Some don't. They're common decorative items - a lot of you own one I'd assume.
But what should we do with it? Sure, we can put votives in the candle holders. But is that it? No way!
We want items that trasition well from season to season and style to style. Versatility is a must. Just check out how Nancy transformed one of these pieces from ordinary to extraordinary!
Here's the original - the "ordinary." Very pretty but we're going to make it awesome.
Step 1: Integrate some greenery. We used about a yard of ivy. Tuck it around the curls of the iron. Don't wrap - just gently and naturally integrate it. Fluff out the greenery/ivy. Even if you dislike silk flowers, consider using some. They add a new texture to the arrangement, creating a more natural appearance.
Step 2: Add something unexpected that changes the line of the piece. (See how both the metal piece and the ivy work horizontally but the bird sits vertically? That's good. This addition of levels is pleasing to the eye.)
Step 3: Add pops of color. We used some unscented, pear-shaped candles. No. They don't have to match. They go (like Stacy London says.) It works because they are all cool colors...
That's it! How simple! And yet we totally transformed this piece from its original look.
