A trip down memory lane............

Today my sister, my daughter, and I made the two hour drive to our hometown, Forest City, NC.  We don't get back there very often because we don't have much family remaining there and we never returned to live there after we went to college.  Our mother moved to be closer to us when she retired.  So our visits now are for the occasional funeral, class reunion or general curiosity.  Today's trip falls under the "general curiosity" category.  A wonderful childhood friend spent some time with us and updated us on lots of people we knew.  She, like my sister and me, still winces at her newly orphaned status as we lost our mothers recently.

We made a visit to our home church, where we spent the majority of our non-school hours, First Baptist Church of Forest City.  It is still as majestic and warm as I remembered. It has the most beautiful stained glass windows and being there just flooded us with good memories and thankfulness for our strong Christian education. Several areas of the building had been remodeled but, all in all, it remained very recognizable.  There were pictures on display of choirs and G.A. coronations goneby and we found our much younger selves in the pictures!  I felt so good to still be a part of it !

Many things had changed around town, but many more had not.  Small town, USA.  A good place to raise a family!
